How to Measure Your Dog (and Your Space) for a Custom Size Dog Bed
The whole point of a custom size dog bed is the perfect fit, so the measurements you send us are the most important part of the order. The good news: it takes five minutes and a tape measure. Here's how to get it right.
Step 1: Measure Your Dog
Wait until your dog is lying down in their natural sleeping position, ideally fully stretched out on their side, since that's when they take up the most room.
Length: measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail.
Width: measure across the widest point, usually shoulder to paws when side-sleeping.
Then add a comfortable margin to each measurement so your dog can shift positions without ending up on the floor. If your dog is still growing, which is especially relevant for large and giant breeds, size for the adult dog, not the puppy. Step 2: Measure the Space
A custom bed usually needs to fit a specific spot as much as a specific dog. Measure the actual space where the bed will live:
Crates: measure the internal floor dimensions, not the advertised crate size. Manufacturers measure crates differently and the internal usable floor is often smaller than the label suggests.
Nooks and corners: under a desk, beside the couch, a laundry alcove. Measure wall to wall at floor level, and check for skirting boards that eat into the space.
Kennels and outdoor areas: measure the flat floor area only.
If the dog measurement and the space measurement disagree, the space wins. A bed that doesn't fit the spot doesn't get used.
