Dog Beds for Great Danes and Other Giant Breeds: Why Custom Is the Only Real Answer

If you own a Great Dane, an Irish Wolfhound or a Cane Corso, you already know the routine. You buy the biggest bed in the shop, labelled "XXL", and your dog lies down on it with their head and half their legs on the floorboards.
Here's the uncomfortable truth: most "extra large" dog beds are designed with Labradors and German Shepherds in mind. Genuinely giant breeds are an afterthought, because mass production overseas runs on standard sizes, and giant-breed owners are a small slice of the market.

Why Fit Matters More for Big Dogs
Giant breeds carry serious weight on their joints. A bed that's too short forces your dog to curl unnaturally or hang limbs off the edge, which means pressure points on elbows, hips and hocks against hard floors. Orthopaedic support only works if the whole dog is actually on the bed. You can read more about why orthopaedic bedding matters here.

That's why our custom beds are built on the same orthopaedic foundations as our standard bedding range, just cut to the size your dog genuinely needs.
How Big Can We Go?
The largest custom bed we've manufactured so far is 2 metres by 1.2 metres. That's big enough for a fully stretched-out Great Dane, or two dogs who refuse to sleep apart. Because we manufacture everything ourselves in Rutherford, NSW (see how our beds are made), we're not limited by what a supplier's catalogue offers. You tell us the length and width, we build it.

Which Bed Types Come in Custom Sizes?
TuffMat! is waterproof and fully sealed, ideal if your big dog splits time between indoors and out.
PlushMat! is the indoor option with a removable, machine-washable cover.
PlushMat! Plus offers three layers of luxe memory foam with a heating and cooling side.
You can also add a custom-sized PlushRest memory foam pillow attachment so even the longest neck has somewhere to rest.

Measuring a Giant Breed for a Bed
Measure your dog fully stretched out on their side: nose to base of tail for length, then add a comfortable margin. Check the space where the bed will live so the bed fits both the dog and the room. Our sizing and recommendation guide can help you sanity-check the numbers. Then send us length x width plus your preferred bed type.

Ordering Is Simple
Message us on Facebook or Instagram, or email bryan@roverpetproducts.com.au with your measurements. Custom beds take up to 4-6 weeks, as each one is designed and manufactured individually in our Australian factory.
Your giant deserves a bed that actually fits. Get a custom size quote here.
